The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next three days. The alert comes as a weather system near Gwalior, about 50 km north of the city and 60 km south-southeast of Agra, is expected to move north-northeast.
Uttarakhand will experience light to moderate rain from September 12 to 14, with isolated heavy downpours. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to face heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions, particularly in Mathura.
Earlier, an orange alert for Delhi predicted thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain, leading to significant traffic issues and waterlogging. The region has seen temperatures drop below normal, with a recorded high of approximately 26°C against the forecasted 30°C.
Madhya Pradesh is also expected to face extremely heavy rain until September 14, influenced by a depression over the Bay of Bengal now affecting northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest Uttar Pradesh. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for east Rajasthan until September 15, with Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Rajasthan also expected to experience heavy rain in isolated areas on Thursday.
